And since Halloween happens to be the ideal time of year when people can get weird and crazy, and inventive with their own DIY decorations, whether in form of creepy cobwebs and spook creatures to elegant witchy vibes, Halloween decor gives an opportunity for coming up with fun and festive atmospheres without costing much. Perhaps your haunted house party that you have been conducting or just give your house some seasonal makeover these DIY Halloween decorations bring life to the spirit of the season.

1. Do It Yourself: Spider Web Decoration

Nothing says Halloween like spidery webs. Hang a large spider web, employing very inexpensive cheesecloth or black fabric stretched across a window or your front door, for that eerie look. Throw little plastic spiders on there for that added fright. If you’re an absolute dweeb, make a life-sized spider using pool noodles and other craft supplies-and I guess your house will be the talk of the neighborhood overnight!

2. Pumpkin Balloon Garland

Replace those old bland pumpkins with an orange balloon garland. Just inflate some orange balloons, tie to a string, and sort of tangle them together in design with green leaves and black vines. This is a very inexpensive decoration that will knock some brains out with your vibrant Halloween flair when you drape it over the doorway or across the mantel on your fireplace, or just across the front porch.

3. Ghost Lanterns

Your ghost lanterns can be made by draping white cheesecloth over an empty jar or even a mason jar and placing an LED candle inside, allowing the soft spooky light to glow through. Place them along your walkway, across your porch steps, or even as a centerpiece for that hauntingly magical look.

4. Witch’s Broom Door Hanger

Cast a spell over your visitors with a witch’s broom door hanger. Use a long, thin rod as the dowel and attach lots of those dried twigs or straw on the end. Hang it from a rope or string across your door or porch, and you have an airy, build-it-yourself ornament right there in the entrance.

5. DIY Floating Witch Hats

Create a spell-casting atmosphere in your home? Hang floating witch hats from the ceiling with clear fishing line. Dangle them at different heights throughout your entry or living room. Even small creepy items like plastic rats or bats can dangle in the hat for that magical, creepy feel. It almost looks like these floating hats are casting spells in your home.

6. Spider-Inspired Wreath

You can create one of the creepiest wreaths you can have by just utilizing black tulle or fabric, artificial spiders, and just a simple frame for the base. Mini pumpkins, black feathers, creepy eyes, voilà-for a very ghoulish effect. Hang on your front door, over your mantle, or as part of your Halloween table setting.

7. Bloody Handprint Window Clings

Bloody Handprint Window Clings

For a little gruesome recreation, create bloody handprint window clings using red food coloring or washable markers. Just draw handprints onto a sheet of plastic or wax paper, and you’ll be applying those clings to your windows. Add in the scare factor by adding fake blood splatters, or even “blood dripping” from your windowsills with red paint, along with the handprints.

8. Do It Yourself Skull and Bone Centerpiece

You gather white skulls and bone-shaped things in plastic or foam, and then come up with a scary Halloween centerpiece. You can arrange the set in a tray or table and cover it with black cloth, candles, or pumpkins. It is a homemade decoration which you can use on your dining tables or coffee tables when you have Halloween dinners.

9. Bat Wall Art

This is a very inexpensive decoration. You can even have your bat wall art built from black construction paper or foam sheets. Cut the bats in several different sizes and hang them on walls, windows, or the ceiling. To add drama, you can employ 3D foam tape giving a “flying” look as if the bats are swooping down to you.

10. Potion Bottle Displays

Fill glass bottles full of water, paint the inside of hollow glass bottles dark, add glitters or fake cobwebs on them, and label the bottles with creepy names of potions such as “Eye of Newt” or “Witch’s Brew” and place the bottles upon a table, mantle, or kitchen for an added Halloween fun.
